Hello, friend.

Thanks for dropping by. If you’re wondering where you’ve landed, here’s a little about me:

The basics:

I write historical fantasy and epic fantasy with themes of wonder, second chances, and finding home. I was the girl who checked out the max number of books from the library every time I went and had to rewrite my signature on my library card multiple times because it kept wearing off. As a shy kid who started writing in elementary school, I discovered early on a passion for sharing my thoughts and ideas through writing. Though I’ve been writing professionally for more than ten years now, my heart is still drawn to stories of other worlds that sweep me away with intriguing plots, nuanced characters, and satisfying pay-offs.

The professional details:

  • I’m the author of more than 140 published articles.

  • I’ve interviewed dozens of business professionals, entrepreneurs, and non-profit workers through my work as a journalist and storyteller.

  • I own Rooted Biography, a company I started to help families and organizations share their stories. See more here.

Just for fun:

  • My favorite spot to write is a local coffee shop inside a greenhouse (first picture on this page). It’s the absolute best spot to be on a dreary January day.

  • My pup Hugo came from a border collie rescue but turned out to have zero border collie in him. He's just a good old-fashioned supermutt.

  • Helping create safe spaces for at-risk kids is super important to me. I've been leading an afterschool program for local elementary kids through my church for the past ten years, and it's one of the most fulfilling things I get to do.

  • I've traveled to fourteen countries with plans for more to come. One of my favorites was getting to see Hobbiton in New Zealand!

  • I love reading classic literature as well as modern fantasy! Current favorites include Les Miserables, East of Eden, and Middlemarch.
