In a Flash: Story through Photos

In high school, I was introduced to this quote by Roy H. Williams:

They say a picture is worth a thousand words…. In a thousand words I can have the Lord’s Prayer, the 23rd Psalm, the Hippocratic Oath, a sonnet by Shakespeare, the Preamble to the Constitution, Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, and almost all of the Boy Scout Oath. Now exactly what picture were you planning to trade for all that?

As a lover of words and stories, most of the time I’d have to agree. But I also love the stories that are told through photos. So, today, here are ten stories about me shared through photos.

I was born into a great family with three younger siblings. If there wasn’t such a large gap in our ages, the four of us could probably pass for two sets of twins.

I started writing when I was 8 and have continued until now.

In high school, I did a lot of things – maybe too many. But it seemed the thing to do at the time.

I traveled 9 hours away to go to college, where I had a lot of fun…

…and met some great friends.

I did a bit of traveling and caught a glimpse of how big the world is.

I did some volunteer work, went on some mission trips, and along the way caught a heart for kids.

So when I graduated from college, I decided to take a year and work in an inner-city ministry.

But then I learned how hard – and often, how discouraging – serving other people can be. Plus, I still had this little voice in the back of my head that said, “And what about God’s call to writing?”

With a little help from some great friends and great books, I’m filling up the places drained dry from a year of full-time ministry. And as I look ahead, I’m searching for ways my passions for stories and people might fit together.
